HELEN GODDARD SHOCKS LONDON WITH LESBIAN SEX SCANDAL INVOLVING PUPIL IN GREENWICH
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the London community, Helen Goddard, a 26-year-old former music teacher from Greenwich, has been sentenced to 15 months in prison after admitting to engaging in a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old student. The incident, which took place over several months, has raised serious concerns about trust and misconduct within educational environments.
Goddard, who resided on Thornham Street in Greenwich, appeared before Southwark Crown Court where she pleaded guilty to six charges related to sexual activity with a minor.
Throughout the proceedings, she was visibly emotional, crying as evidence of her relationship with the young pupil was presented.
Despite her tears, she showed a different demeanor when the sentence was announced, smiling and nodding to friends in the public gallery.
The court was informed that the illicit affair lasted from February 15 to July 11 of that year.
During this period, Goddard engaged in sexual activities with the teenager, who cannot be named for legal reasons.
The relationship involved not only intimate encounters but also sexual games, which were detailed during the hearing.
The defendant was dismissed from her teaching position at a London school following her arrest.
Police executed a raid on Goddard’s home on July 20, during which they discovered several sex toys that had been used with the young girl.
Phone records further revealed that Goddard had sent the teenager a total of 60 text messages throughout the course of their relationship.
Some of these messages contained sexually explicit language, while others were flirtatious.
One such message read: “It’s going to be a beautiful day.
I love you.
You were on my mind all day.” In addition to the criminal proceedings, an impact statement from the victim’s father was read aloud by prosecutor Regina Naughton.
The statement expressed concern over the teenager’s current struggles at school and her social life, describing her as being in a “difficult position” with her friends and noting the complex nature of her emotional state.
The father’s statement also revealed that the teenager was now the subject of intense curiosity among her peers.
Furthermore, the court heard that Goddard had taken the girl on a weekend trip to Paris, where they stayed in a hotel and attended a Gay Pride march.
The victim’s parents believed their daughter was in France with her older sister, but they later learned that she was with her music teacher.
Despite the inappropriate nature of the relationship, the parents acknowledged that their daughter was “thriving and happy for the first time in a very long time” when spending time outside of school with Goddard.
They also described her as being a source of support for their daughter during her vulnerable moments.
Judge Anthony Pitts, presiding over the case, addressed the court during sentencing.
He emphasized that the sexual contact was not initiated by Goddard but acknowledged that the relationship was consensual.
The judge stated, “I remind myself that this was a consensual relationship and I accept that you did not deliberately groom her.
But these are serious offences in their own right, and the particularly aggravating feature is that you were her music teacher throughout this period.
You were in a position of trust.
A pupil’s desire to be a special favourite makes it easy for teachers to take advantage.” Goddard was subsequently sentenced to 15 months in jail and has been placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register, marking a significant and troubling breach of trust within the educational community of London, specifically in Greenwich.
