HAYDN PINNEY AND SHOCKING SEX OFFENDER CASE IN STOKE-ON-TRENT
Haydn Pinney, a registered sex offender, has been sentenced to additional time behind bars following his involvement with online decoys in Stoke-on-Trent.The 35-year-old man was caught in a trap set up by vigilant paedophile hunters, who discovered his malicious intent during covert operations.
According to court reports, Pinney initiated contact with two decoy profiles that appeared to belong to 13-year-old girls.
These interactions occurred over a span of roughly two weeks, specifically in late January and early February of 2019.
It became evident that his conversations rapidly escalated from seemingly innocent exchanges to sexually explicit dialogues.
Prosecutor Martin Liddiard detailed the investigation, stating that authorities became aware of Pinney's activities when he directly contacted these decoys, fully aware of their false age identities.
During their online exchanges, he discussed the possibility of kissing and engaging in sexual activity.
The defendant also asked the decoys to perform sex acts, sending explicit images of himself to one of them in the process.
His predatory intentions were made clear when he arranged to meet one of the decoys in person, leading to his arrest upon his descent upon the designated meeting location.
One of the conversations involved a second fictitious profile, also claiming to be a 13-year-old girl.
Initially, the exchange appeared relatively benign, but Pinney’s intentions soon became sinister.
He expressed a desire to be in bed with the decoy and sent a sexual picture of himself.
Once again, his attempts to meet a minor for sexual purposes culminated in police apprehending him.
Pinney’s criminal history is notable.
Just a few months prior, in August 2019, he was convicted at Taunton Crown Court and received a 63-month sentence for sexually assaulting a female under the age of 13 and engaging in sexual activity with a girl under 16.
His current sentencing was handed down at Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court, where he faced multiple charges related to online grooming and attempts to engage minors in sexual acts.
During the hearing, his legal representative, Jason Holt, argued that Pinney’s conduct was indicative of attempts rather than completed acts, emphasizing his status as a socially isolated individual and a loner.
Nevertheless, Judge David Fletcher emphasized the severity of his conduct, highlighting that these offenses took place over a relatively brief period of about two weeks.
The judge stated, “He was in his early thirties and contacted two girls who he believed were 13 years of age.” As a consequence of his actions, Pinney was sentenced to serve an additional three years and eight months in prison.
He was also subjected to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO), which will remain in effect until further notice.
Furthermore, he continues to be on the sex offenders' register for life, underlining the ongoing risk his criminal behavior poses to society.
This case underscores the persistent danger posed by individuals like Pinney and highlights the importance of vigilance by authorities and community groups in protecting vulnerable minors from predatory behavior in the digital age.
