ASPIRING ACTOR DRUNK KILLS GREAT-GRANDMOTHER IN CAMDEN
An aspiring actor battling alcohol dependency was sentenced to six years in prison after causing the death of an elderly woman during a drunken rampage.Harry Sims, 29, ran at 80-year-old Ourania Lambrou on Camden Road around 2 pm on March 31 and pushed her forcefully in the chest.
The fall resulted in a brain haemorrhage, and she died two days later after suffering a fractured vertebra.
Sims pleaded guilty to manslaughter at the trial.
Court proceedings at Inner London Crown Court revealed that Sims was heavily intoxicated on that day and was seen staggering into traffic, attempting to halt passing cars.
Prosecutor Brian O’Neill QC stated that Sims had run toward a group near a bus stop by the Esso petrol station and pushed Ms Lambrou.
An aspiring actor and avid Pete Doherty fan, Sims then staggered across the road once more, attacking another elderly woman with a walking stick, grabbing her umbrella, injuring her hand, and tossing it into the street while threatening her life.
CCTV footage showed his unsteady gait as he navigated traffic, and police officers eventually had to intervene physically.
Initially, Ms Lambrou was taken to University College Hospital but was discharged without a proper diagnosis, later returning home where she was found unresponsive by her granddaughter.
She was transferred to the Royal Free Hospital and declared dead on April 3.
Her family paid tribute to her resilience, independence, and unique character, noting her death created a deep loss in their lives.
In custody, Sims displayed uncooperative behavior, cursing and insulting officers, and even attempted to punch a police officer, spitting in his face.
He has a significant criminal history, including 24 convictions on 36 charges related to alcohol.
Judge Usha Karu highlighted that Sims’ drunkenness was the cause of the tragic death and sentenced him to six years for manslaughter and an extra two months for assaulting an officer.
After the ruling, Ms Lambrou’s son expressed, “He got what he deserves.
A bit more would have been nice, but we’re pleased he’s no longer on the streets.”
