Greenock Rapist
In a disturbing case that has shocked the community of Greenock, Inverclyde, Harpreet Padda, a bus driver of Indian origin, has been found guilty of engaging in sexual activity with a minor and causing her to become pregnant. The incident took place in July 2014 at a residence in Greenock, where Padda had a sexual relationship with a 13-year-old girl. This act occurred at a time when Padda's wife was also pregnant with their own child, adding a tragic layer to the case.

Harpreet Padda, who is currently residing in the UK illegally, now faces a significant prison sentence following his guilty plea to a charge of having sex with an older child. The case was heard at the High Court in Glasgow, where it was revealed that Padda was familiar with the girl and her family, which likely contributed to the ease with which the relationship developed.

Prosecutor Angela Gray detailed the timeline of events, explaining that the girl’s mother took her to see a general practitioner in February of the previous year because her daughter was experiencing persistent vomiting. During the medical examination, it was discovered that the girl was approximately 30 weeks pregnant, although her mother did not disclose the identity of the father at that time. The girl subsequently gave birth to the baby in April 2015.

In June 2015, Padda provided a DNA sample, which confirmed his involvement in the pregnancy. During police interviews, the girl was reported to be “very distressed,” and she later disclosed that Padda had engaged in sexual activity with her on one occasion. Initially, Padda faced a charge of rape, but prosecutors accepted his guilty plea to a reduced charge of sexual activity with a minor.

Judge Lord Beckett has deferred sentencing Padda until reports are prepared, indicating that a thorough assessment of his case will be conducted before a final decision is made. The legal proceedings took a further turn in July when Padda was detained at Heathrow Airport by police while attempting to board a flight, and he is now in custody in Middlesex.

Sentencing is scheduled for August, and the case continues to draw attention due to the serious nature of the crimes and the breach of trust involved.
