HAROLD TAYLOR'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN ODSAL BRADFORD - SERIAL PAEDOPHILE SENTENCED

In a case that has sent shockwaves through the community of Odsal, Bradford, Harold Taylor, a long-distance lorry driver, was brought before Bradford Crown Court to face serious allegations of sexual misconduct involving minors. The proceedings revealed a disturbing pattern of offending that spanned several decades, with Taylor's most recent crimes committed at his residence in Odsal.

Despite his prior incarceration, Taylor was still classified as a high-risk offender, which influenced the severity of his current sentence.

The judge detailed the recent offences, which took place at Taylor’s home in Odsal last year. These involved a gross breach of trust, as Taylor befriended and mentored a teenage boy, teaching him to play guitar and organ. During this period, Taylor showed the young victim pornographic videos and offered to buy him a mobile phone in exchange for sexual favors. The court was told that Taylor admitted to two counts of indecent assault on the teenage boy, who was aged 15 and 16 at the time, and to supplying cannabis to one of the victims. The young man, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, was manipulated and exploited by Taylor.

Further allegations involved two other 14-year-old boys, also unnamed for legal reasons. Taylor was accused of engaging in sexual acts in front of them, attempting to pull down one boy’s trousers, and making inappropriate comments such as, “Why don’t you do what they’re doing?” The prosecutor, Geraldine Kelly, detailed how Taylor also showed the boys gay pornographic videos and suggested they imitate what they saw. These actions underscored the predatory nature of his conduct.

In addition to the criminal charges, Taylor’s sentencing included a ten-year sexual offences prevention order, which prohibits him from having children at his home or engaging in unaccompanied contact with minors. He is also barred from working with children, whether paid or voluntary, and will be subject to a ten-year licence period following his release. Furthermore, Taylor is required to register as a sex offender with the police for life.

During the court proceedings, Taylor pleaded guilty to the charges, which spared the victims from having to testify in a trial. His defense lawyer, Gerald Hendron, acknowledged that Taylor’s admissions should be taken into account and argued that, although his previous convictions were concerning, the recent victims were not as young or as vulnerable as the one involved in his 1995 offence against an eight-year-old boy.
