HARJIT SINGH'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN CHESHIRE AND LONDON: PREDATOR'S REIGN OF TERROR ENDS
A dangerous sex offender, Harjit Singh, has been brought back before the courts to face charges related to his failure to comply with mandatory registration requirements.Singh, who was previously convicted of attempted rape and sexual assault, now aged 53 and residing in Runcorn, Cheshire, appeared at Warrington Magistrates’ Court to be sentenced for his recent breach of the sex offender notification obligations.
Singh was ordered to adhere strictly to the conditions of his sex offender registration and notification duties following his imprisonment in October 2016.
His latest appearance in court came after he admitted to neglecting these responsibilities, specifically failing to complete his annual registration, which is a legal requirement for individuals convicted of sexual offences.
The prosecution, represented by Michael O’Kane, outlined that Singh’s failure to comply occurred in Runcorn in August of the previous year.
The court was informed that Singh did not provide the necessary registration details without any reasonable excuse, despite the fact that he was under a legal obligation to do so.
This breach is considered a serious offence, especially given Singh’s prior convictions.
Singh’s criminal history is extensive.
In September 2016, he was convicted of a single count of attempted rape, along with two additional charges of sexual assault and failure to surrender to bail.
The attempted rape incident took place in July 2016, when Singh followed a woman with Down’s Syndrome to her home in Hounslow, London.
After a day out, the victim boarded a bus in Hounslow, where Singh was also a passenger.
When she disembarked, Singh followed her into a block of flats.
As she entered her apartment, he followed her into the lift, then took the stairs and ambushed her as she opened her front door.
He forcibly pushed her inside, took her into a bedroom, and attempted to carry out a sexual assault.
However, Singh was unable to complete the attack and fell asleep, providing the victim with an opportunity to escape and alert her neighbors.
The police responded swiftly, arresting Singh at the scene, and he was charged two days later.
His previous convictions also include a three-month prison sentence related to two counts of sexual assault on women at the Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, London, in April 2015.
Singh had pleaded guilty to these offences but failed to appear for his sentencing.
In October 2016, Singh received a six-year prison sentence for his attempted rape conviction.
The court also considered his earlier offences and the fact that he demonstrated a 'wilful neglect' of his registration duties.
Despite the seriousness of his breach, magistrates took into account his guilty plea and potential for rehabilitation, opting to suspend his sentence.
Singh was sentenced to 26 weeks in prison, suspended for two years, and was ordered to pay costs of £120 to the Crown Prosecution Service and a surcharge of £154 to support victim services.
His obligation to register as a sex offender remains in effect.
Following Singh’s recent sentencing, Detective Constable David Fall of the Metropolitan Police expressed satisfaction with the outcome.
He stated, “I am pleased with the sentence that has been handed down, and even more satisfied that Singh will no longer be on the streets of London, where he clearly poses a risk to the public.
Singh is a predator who targeted a lone and vulnerable woman in broad daylight, and he displayed a sense of arrogance as he carried out his attack without fear of being caught.
The victim has been supported throughout the investigation by specialist officers and she has shown an immense level of bravery.
I would like to place on record the courage she has shown throughout the investigation.”
