2011: OLDBURY MAN JAILED AFTER TAKING PART IN BRUTAL GANG RAPE OF TEENAGER
A man aged 24 from Oldbury, named Ibrar Mohammed, has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being found guilty of participating in a gang rape involving a teenage girl. The sexual assault occurred at a property in the local area, where Mohammed, along with two other men, Harjinder Singh and Haider Kanwal, attacked their 17-year-old victim.
Both Singh and Kanwal, who live on Vicarage Street in Smethwick, denied the charges but were convicted by a jury after nearly eight hours of careful deliberation at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
Judge Michael Challinor stated that the girl was under the influence of alcohol and drugs before the assault, which he described as both calculated and deliberately planned, causing serious harm to the victim.
The court's verdict confirmed her innocence and reflected the gravity of the crime.
The judge sentenced Singh and Kanwal to eight years imprisonment each and ordered all three defendants to be registered as Sex Offenders for life.
Kanwal also pleaded guilty to manufacturing cannabis and stealing electricity, resulting in an additional one-year sentence to be served concurrently.
The case was characterized as an extremely serious offence with aggravating factors.
All defendants claimed that the girl had consented to the acts.
Prosecutor Mr.
Philip Bradley pointed out that a fourth man involved was not prosecuted, and a fifth individual had escaped abroad at the time of the prosecution.
