Doncaster Rapist
A man from Doncaster, Hanzel Scott, aged 42 and residing at Sovereign Court, has been handed a lengthy prison sentence after being convicted of a series of serious criminal activities that spanned several years. The case was heard at Sheffield Crown Court, where Scott faced justice for multiple offences involving drugs, sexual assault, and violence.
Scott was found guilty of conspiring to supply heroin and cocaine, as well as concealing, disguising, converting, transferring, and removing criminal property. These charges relate to his alleged involvement in a sophisticated drug operation that, over a four-year period from June 2016 to June 2020, is estimated to have supplied more than £680,000 worth of Class A drugs. The investigation into his drug empire was complex and extensive, ultimately leading to his arrest on 9 March 2022. During this operation, authorities also uncovered evidence of his efforts to hide his illicit earnings through financial transfers.
In addition to his drug-related crimes, Scott was also convicted of a series of sexual offences committed against two 16-year-old girls. The first victim came forward on 2 November 2022, reporting that Scott had assaulted her. This prompted an immediate police investigation, and officers circulated Scott as wanted the following day. His arrest and subsequent charge for rape occurred on 6 November 2022. The second victim later reported her assault on 16 May 2023, at which point Scott, who was already in police custody, was rearrested for further rape offences. Despite denying the charges, Scott was found guilty of all seven counts, including five counts of rape, assault by penetration, and attempted sexual assault by penetration, following a trial that concluded on 23 August.
Scott’s criminal activities did not end there. He also assaulted an emergency worker, for which he received a sentence of 12 weeks in prison, to be served concurrently with his other sentences. The court heard that Scott’s actions were driven by a desire for power and control, with Judge Reeds KC describing him as a “selfish bully who takes what he wants by force if necessary.” The judge further emphasized that Scott’s sexual offences were motivated by a need for dominance, exploiting the vulnerability of one of his victims.
On Wednesday 6 November, Scott was sentenced to a total of 12 years in prison for his drug offences, and an additional 12 years for his sexual crimes, with the sentences to be served consecutively. This means he will spend a total of 24 years behind bars. The court also ordered that he serve 12 weeks concurrently for the assault on the emergency worker. The combined sentences reflect the severity and multiplicity of his crimes, marking a significant victory for justice in Doncaster and Sheffield.
Judge Reeds concluded by condemning Scott’s actions, highlighting the harm caused to his victims and the community. The lengthy sentences serve as a stark reminder of the serious consequences faced by those who commit such heinous offences in the Doncaster area and beyond.
