Ipswich Rapist
A 43-year-old man has been sentenced to prison after he forcibly took a woman into a bedroom and committed rape. Hamza Badat, who previously lived on Levington Road in Ipswich, was given an eight-year jail term at Ipswich Crown Court. The incident took place in October 2018, when the woman, aged 22 at the time, met Badat at a mutual friend's house in Ipswich. Notably, the two individuals were strangers before the assault. Suffolk Police reported that Badat was found guilty of rape following a five-day trial. As part of his sentence, he was also ordered to sign the sex offenders register indefinitely. Det Con Damian Richer commented on the case, describing the assault as despicable and highlighting the lasting impact on the victim, who expressed feeling like the trauma was 'like a nail in the back, with no choice.' The victim's statement underscored the profound and enduring effects of the assault.
