April 2010 Jail for pervert who abused girl A PERVERT who indecently touched a six-year-old girl and told her it was “their secret” has been jailed for 15 months.
John Nelson, aged 57, of Hart House, Hall i’th’ Wood, indecently assaulted the girl in the 1970s, touching her in bed and inviting her to touch him in the bath, Bolton Crown Court heard.
Nelson’s young victim, who cannot be named for legal reasons, kept quiet about the abuse for 20 years.
As a young child, she thought the abuse was normal, and only realised it was wrong when she talked about sex at school with her friends.
The court heard that the abuse happened while Nelson was living in Deane Church Lane, Deane.
Nelson pleaded not guilty to 14 charges of indecent assault and indecency with a child, but was found guilty on five counts.
Nelson will serve half of his 15 month sentence and must stay on the sex offenders’ register for ten years.
