MAN WITH PERSONALITY DISORDER MANSLAUGHTERS PENSIONER IN NORTH LONDON
A 38-year-old man named Hakim Abdillahi has been placed in indefinite hospital detention following his attack on 79-year-old Eleftheria Demetriou in Morant Place, Wood Green, last August.During the assault, he repeatedly stabbed her because he believed she was the "antichrist." Abdillahi, who admitted to manslaughter at the Old Bailey, was described by court sources as a "gentle and quiet" man who was a friend of the victim, often referring to her as "grandma." It was revealed that Abdillahi, who was being treated for a personality disorder, had emigrated from Djibouti in 1999 under false pretenses, claiming he was six years younger than his actual age.
He had been discharged from St Ann's Hospital one month prior to the attack; afterward, his behavior grew increasingly unstable.
His discontinuation of medication, coupled with his use of cannabis and khat, resulted in highly unpredictable episodes, including instances where he called police and claimed divine possession, saying the Holy Spirit was within him, and that demons had taken control.
Following the assault, Abdillahi called emergency services and stated, "I was told to deal with her - you should be happy the antichrist is dead." The grandmother died due to multiple fatal wounds to her heart and spleen.
Her family, notably her son Marios Demetriou, were profoundly affected; Marios expressed heartbreak, and his family sought counseling, with his young daughter suffering nightmares related to Abdillahi’s violent actions.
Judge Richard Hone QC commented, "What you did almost defies rational explanation." Defense advocate Ross Johnson pointed out Abdillahi's history of self-harm, depression, and borderline personality disorder, emphasizing that he was "acutely psychotic on the day of the killing" and lacked awareness of his conduct.
The case underscores the devastating repercussions of untreated mental health conditions and highlights the critical need for mental health care.
