2011: OLDBURY MAN JAILED AFTER TAKING PART IN BRUTAL GANG RAPE OF TEENAGER
A 24-year-old man from Oldbury, Ibrar Mohammed, has been sentenced to eight years in prison after being convicted of participating in a severe gang rape involving a teenage girl.Alongside his co-defendants Harjinder Singh and Haider Kanwal, Mohammed was part of a group that assaulted a 17-year-old girl after she was taken to a residence nearby.
Despite their denial of the allegations, a jury returned a guilty verdict after nearly eight hours of deliberation at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
The judge, Michael Challinor, highlighted that the young victim had been intoxicated with alcohol and drugs before being sexually assaulted by the five-member gang.
The judge described the crime as deliberately planned and noted the significant harm caused to the victim.
Additionally, Singh and Kanwal were ordered to register as sex offenders for life.
Kanwal also admitted to producing cannabis and stealing electricity and was sentenced to an extra year in prison, to run concurrently with his eight-year sentence.
The court emphasized the gravity of the rape, mentioning aggravating circumstances and the fact that all defendants claimed the sexual acts were consensual.
Prosecutor Mr.
Philip Bradley also pointed out that one man involved was not prosecuted, and another had fled the country.
