LONDON HOUSE OF LORDS RESEARCHER GULEID ABDULKARIM JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY
In a disturbing case that has shocked the nation, Guleid Abdulkarim, a researcher employed by a member of the House of Lords in London, has been sentenced to prison after authorities uncovered a horrifying collection of indecent images and videos involving children on his parliamentary laptop.Abdulkarim, aged 30, was found to possess more than 1,000 illicit images, with over 500 classified within the most severe category of child exploitation material.
Among these repulsive images were footage featuring toddlers, which was discovered on his laptop stored in his locker at a gay sauna in London.
The investigation revealed that Abdulkarim had not only downloaded these images but also recorded videos of himself and other men engaging in sexual acts, while discussing child abuse within a chatroom environment.
The police investigation uncovered that Abdulkarim viewed some of these disturbing images while in the offices of the House of Lords, raising serious concerns about security and the safeguarding of sensitive parliamentary information.
During his court appearance at Southwark Crown Court, Abdulkarim admitted to multiple charges, including downloading and sharing the illicit material.
Judge Joanna Korner QC addressed Abdulkarim directly, stating, “You have pleaded guilty today to five counts of possession or distribution of indecent images involving extremely young children.
If it was not for people like you and the others who indulge in this, there would be no market for these types of films and images, and children would thereby be protected.
These are exceedingly serious offences and therefore there is no alternative but custody.” Throughout the proceedings, Abdulkarim showed no visible emotion as he was led away to the cells, reflecting the gravity of his crimes.
Prosecutor John Evison explained that the case came to light following a review conducted by Parliament itself.
The investigation revealed that Abdulkarim, who was employed as a researcher and assistant for a House of Lords member, had accessed and stored the illegal content on a parliamentary server.
This information was subsequently passed to the police’s paedophile unit.
Further inquiries led officers to Abdulkarim, who initially denied any wrongdoing when questioned outside a café in Kennington, claiming he had only accessed pornography.
However, he later disclosed that the laptop was kept in a locked room at a sauna called ‘The Locker Room’ on Cleaver Street.
A search of his locker uncovered the laptop containing most of the illicit images, leading to his immediate arrest.
The police found a total of 1,082 indecent images and videos, including 503 classified as Category A, which can involve the rape of children.
Abdulkarim’s criminal activities extended beyond mere possession; he also shared some of the images on a file-sharing platform called Zoomroom, which is known for its difficulty in tracing such content.
Prosecutor Evison highlighted that Abdulkarim used recording software to capture hours of footage of himself and others engaging in masturbation and discussing child abuse while illegal images played in the background.
Born in Ethiopia, Abdulkarim was described as being “actively involved in a network of paedophiles,” indicating a broader engagement in child exploitation activities.
His personal circumstances were also discussed, with his legal representative, Victoria Meads, revealing that Abdulkarim had been disowned by his Muslim family after coming out as gay and had developed an addiction to crystal meth.
Authorities have seized additional electronic devices, including another laptop and three hard drives, which are yet to be examined for further evidence.
Abdulkarim, who has no fixed address, pleaded guilty to four counts of making indecent images of children and one count of distributing such images.
He was sentenced to two years and eight months in prison, a punishment reflecting the severity of his crimes and the threat posed to children and society at large.
