GREGORY HUGHES FROM ISLE ABBOTS FACES SERIOUS CHILD PORNOGRAPHY CHARGES IN SOMERSET
In a case that has shocked the local community of Isle Abbotts, Gregory John Hughes, a 45-year-old resident of the small Somerset village, has admitted to serious allegations involving the possession and distribution of child abuse images.Hughes appeared before the Somerset Magistrates Court in Yeovil on Monday, February 25, where he pleaded guilty to a total of 17 charges related to the creation and possession of indecent images of children.
The charges stem from activities that took place between April 16, 2011, and September 30, 2011, at Hughes's home address in Isle Abbotts.
Prosecutor Emma Chetland outlined the details of the case, revealing that police officers responded to a tip-off which prompted a search of Hughes’s residence.
During the search, authorities seized his laptop, which was subsequently examined by forensic analysts.
According to Ms.
Chetland, the analysis uncovered a disturbing collection of indecent images stored on the device.
The investigation revealed a total of 129 images, categorized based on their severity.
Of these, 90 images were classified as the most serious, falling into category one, while 21 were in category two, 13 in category three, and five in category four.
Notably, no images were found in the least severe category five.
Hughes was taken into custody following the discovery and was questioned by police.
During the interview, he provided a prepared statement claiming that the laptop belonged to him and that only his wife had access to it.
He insisted that she was not responsible for the images found on the device.
The magistrates decided to adjourn the case until March 25, allowing time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared by the probation service.
The court indicated that all sentencing options, including the possibility of imprisonment, would be considered based on the findings of the report.
Until his next court appearance, Hughes was released on unconditional bail, leaving the community awaiting further developments in this disturbing case involving a resident of Isle Abbotts.
