GRANT MCSHANE PETERBOROUGH CENTER PARCS ELVEDEN FOREST SEXUAL ASSAULT
In June 2019, a disturbing incident unfolded at the popular holiday destination of Center Parcs Elveden Forest, where a 15-year-old schoolgirl was subjected to a sexual assault by a man who had abducted her during her family vacation. The court proceedings revealed that the girl had arranged to meet Grant McShane at the security entrance of the holiday park in Elveden, Suffolk.
She was missing for more than four hours before McShane returned her to the park, an event that raised immediate concern among her family and authorities.
During police interviews, the girl disclosed that McShane had given her a large bottle of vodka and cocaine during their time apart.
He had driven her to a secluded, dead-end track where the assault took place.
The court heard that McShane’s actions were calculated and predatory, with the intent to manipulate and control the young girl for his own sexual gratification.
Judge Rupert Overbury, presiding over the case at Ipswich Crown Court, sentenced McShane to six years in prison.
The judge described McShane’s conduct as “predatory,” emphasizing that his behavior as a 25-year-old man towards a 15-year-old girl was both premeditated and coercive.
The judge pointed out that McShane had manipulated the girl’s feelings by professing love and promising to buy her a car she desired, behaviors indicative of grooming.
The court was told that McShane had persuaded the girl to meet him while she was on holiday with her family at Center Parcs.
After luring her with alcohol and Class A drugs, he sexually assaulted her at a remote location.
McShane, now aged 26 and residing on Northam Close in Peterborough, admitted to multiple charges, including abduction, two counts of sexual activity with a child, possession of cannabis, and carrying a pepper spray and a knuckleduster.
In addition to his prison sentence, McShane was subjected to a sexual harm prevention order and was ordered to register as a sex offender.
The prosecution, led by Joanne Eley, explained that the girl had initially met McShane through a mutual friend and they had maintained contact via social media.
When her parents reported her missing after she failed to return home one night, police quickly arrested McShane on suspicion of sexual offences.
Despite his arrest, McShane continued to contact the girl and arranged to meet her at the security entrance of Elveden Center Parcs at 5 pm on February 20.
The girl told her parents she was going for a walk, but she was not seen again until McShane returned her to the park at approximately 9:30 pm.
The case highlights the dangers of grooming and the importance of vigilance in protecting vulnerable young individuals from predatory behavior.
