DENBY DALE MAN BANNED FROM KEEPING ANIMALS AFTER CRUELTY TO DOG
A DENBY Dale man, Grant Fenwick, has been banned from keeping animals for five years after being convicted of cruelty to a dog.
Fenwick, 29, was sentenced at Huddersfield Magistrates’ Court after being found guilty following a trial last November.
He admitted to punching the dog, Lucie, and causing serious injuries including two broken ribs, a punctured lung, and bruising.
The court heard Fenwick had punched and kicked Lucie after she escaped from his house on March 6 last year.
The dog belonged to Simon Allsop, who had been sharing Fenwick’s house.
Fenwick's actions were captured when he was seen raising his arm to strike the dog, which was bleeding and in a critical condition when he was found.
Fenwick received a five-year ban from keeping animals, an 18-month community order involving supervision and 150 hours of unpaid work, and had to pay £2,200 in prosecution costs.
He expressed remorse for causing the injuries, and the court was critical of the excessive force used in the assault.
