GRAHAM WARD CAUGHT IN GRIMSBY PAEDOPHILE HUNTER STING OPERATION
In a disturbing case that unfolded in the seaside town of Cleethorpes, a man identified as Graham Ward, aged 63 and residing on Stanage Walk in Grimsby, was apprehended after engaging in online conversations with what he believed was a 13-year-old girl. The incident was part of an undercover operation conducted by paedophile hunters, who posed as a young girl on the internet to catch predators attempting to exploit minors.
According to court proceedings, the incident took place in October 2017, when Ward initiated contact with the decoy, who was pretending to be a girl nearly 14 years old from Sheffield.
The conversation began with Ward asking, “How old are you and where are you from?” The decoy responded, establishing a false identity to lure him into the trap.
Ward then expressed interest in chatting further on Facebook, to which the decoy asked, “Is me being 13 okay with you?” He replied affirmatively, stating, “I am okay with that.
Just have to be careful.” As the conversation progressed, it took a sexual turn.
Ward sent a private and explicit image of his genitals to the decoy and requested that she send him pictures of herself in her nightwear.
The decoy refused to send any images of herself but was subjected to further inappropriate requests.
Ward then proposed to meet in Cleethorpes, offering to pay for her train ticket to facilitate the meeting.
He also attempted to initiate a video chat, which was unsuccessful.
During police interviews, Ward described the exchanges as “an old man’s fantasy,” attempting to downplay the severity of his actions.
However, the court did not accept this justification.
Craig Lowe, prosecuting, outlined that Ward’s actions constituted attempts to engage in sexual communication with a minor and to incite a child to engage in sexual activity.
Judge Roger Thomas QC delivered a stern verdict, condemning Ward’s conduct as “pathetic and disgusting.” He emphasized that the predator’s actions were serious and deserving of significant consequences.
Ward was sentenced to 30 days of rehabilitation and ordered to participate in a 35-session probation service programme.
Additionally, he was issued a five-year sexual harm prevention order and is required to register as a sex offender for five years, ensuring ongoing monitoring of his activities to protect the community from potential harm.
