Ripon Child Sexual Abuser
In a serious case that has shocked the community of Ripon, Graham Tempest has been sentenced to three years in prison after admitting to engaging in sexual activities with a minor. The incident came to light after a series of troubling events involving the 29-year-old man, who resides on Wakeman Road in Ripon.

According to court records, Tempest had previously been detained and released on bail following his initial arrest for meeting a 15-year-old girl through the social media platform Facebook. Despite this early intervention, he continued to pursue a relationship with the girl, which ultimately led to further criminal charges. The court heard that the young girl, whose identity remains protected for legal reasons, had developed a relationship with Tempest through online interactions, which included several face-to-face meetings.

These meetings reportedly included outings such as trips to the cinema and even sharing a kiss, raising suspicions among those close to the girl. The authorities intervened when concerns about her behavior surfaced, leading to Tempest’s arrest and subsequent bail. Prosecutor Nick Adlington detailed to the court that the girl had begun to skip school and sneak out of her home at night to meet with Tempest. Their meetings culminated in unprotected sexual encounters at his flat, which the court described as consensual but deeply troubling given her age.

Tempest appeared before the court for sentencing, having previously admitted to a charge of engaging in sexual activity with a minor. The offences took place between April 5 and April 28 of the same year. During the proceedings, the court was informed that the girl had prior sexual experiences, and her relationship with Tempest was characterized by a genuine attraction, according to her defense.

In mitigation, Susanah Proctor argued that Tempest recognized the psychological impact his actions could have had on the vulnerable girl. She emphasized that his behavior was out of character, noting that he had no previous criminal record. Despite this, the court decided on a severe punishment, reflecting the gravity of the offences.

Graham Tempest was sentenced to three years in prison and was placed on the Sex Offender Register indefinitely. Additionally, he was permanently barred from working with children and was subject to a Sexual Offences Protection Order. This order restricts his use of the internet and contact with girls under the age of 16, aiming to prevent any future harm. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding minors and the serious consequences faced by those who breach these protections in the community of Ripon.
