GRAHAM ROBERT MEAD SENTENCED IN GUILDFORD FOR SEXUAL OFFENCES INVOLVING CHILDREN
A man has been sentenced to two and a half years in prison for offenses related to indecent images of children.Graham Robert Mead, 46, from Coulsdon, was handed a total of 30 months at Guildford Crown Court on Thursday, June 18, after admitting to several charges, including arranging or commissioning a child sex offence, making an indecent photograph of a child, and three counts of taking indecent images of a child.
The investigation by Surrey Police was initiated in February last year following a tip-off about Mead's online activity.
Authorities discovered that Mead had been using the messaging app Kik to locate individuals with access to children.
Detectives identified a vulnerable teenage victim who had been exploited by Mead.
Investigating officer Detective Constable Steve Branch stated, 'We welcome the sentence the court has imposed.
It sends a clear message to anyone targeting or abusing children that you cannot hide online or behind a username.
We will find you and investigate your activity thoroughly to bring you to justice.' Further inquiries revealed that Mead had stored 2,500 chat logs on his mobile device via Kik, seeking out others with access to children for the purpose of facilitating sexual abuse and obtaining indecent images.
Detective Branch emphasized Mead’s manipulative behavior, saying, 'This sentence demonstrates just how seriously the courts take our concerns for the safety of those he may have come into contact with.' Following the sentencing, police officers are reminding parents and guardians of the importance of educating children about internet safety.
They encourage open dialogue, urging parents to create an environment where children feel comfortable discussing any issues or concerns.
Authorities also stress that children should be aware that online profiles can be deceptive, and they are urged to recognize the signs of grooming—whether online or face-to-face—and report any suspicions to the police.
