2013: SETTEE WOMAN’S RAPIST IS JAILED FOR SIX YEARS
A man has received a six-year prison sentence after being found guilty of rape.
Graham Rawsthorn, who pleaded not guilty during his trial at Liverpool Crown Court, was also ordered to be registered as a sex offender for life.
The court was informed that the assault occurred at Rawsthorn's residence on January 14 of the previous year.
The victim, after consuming alcohol at Rawsthorn's home, fell asleep on a sofa covered with a duvet.
She awoke during the night to find Rawsthorn sexually assaulting her.
Rawsthorn acted as if nothing had happened, prompting the woman to take photographs of herself, uncertain whether she had experienced a nightmare.
Upon waking again, she realized her experience was real, left the property, and contacted police.
The 47-year-old defendant, who has two prior drink-driving convictions in the United States and holds dual nationality (American and British), denied the charges and continues to assert his innocence.
The court noted that his children live in the USA.
