Hamilton Rapist
In a significant case that has spanned decades, Graham Logue, a 55-year-old man from Hamilton, has been sentenced to eight years in prison for serious sexual offenses committed in Rutherglen. The conviction follows a detailed trial at the High Court in Glasgow, where Judge Norman Ritchie QC acknowledged the bravery of the victims who came forward to testify against him.

Judge Ritchie addressed Logue directly, stating, “In many ways you have led a productive life, however by your abuse of the two complainants you have caused them both profound emotional harm, and one of them has suffered physical consequences as well. They carry terrible memories of what you did, and it is through their courage that justice has finally been served.”

The court heard that Logue’s offending began when he was just 14 years old and continued until he was 20. His crimes involved the sexual abuse of two young girls, with one victim aged between nine and 13 at the time of the assault, and the other between six and 10 years old. The offenses took place over a period spanning from October 1977 to June 1984, at a residence in Rutherglen.

Logue was convicted of raping one girl during this period and was also found guilty of sexually abusing the other. Despite his convictions, the court noted that Logue has a history of other criminal offenses, although none related to sexual misconduct. Following his sentencing, he was ordered to register as a sex offender, a measure intended to monitor his activities and prevent further harm.

Throughout the proceedings, Logue displayed no visible emotion as he was led away to serve his sentence. The judge’s remarks underscored the gravity of his crimes and the courage of the victims who endured years of trauma before finally seeing justice served.
