Cleckheaton Child Sexual Abuser
In a disturbing case that has shocked the local community, Graham Langley, a resident of Cleckheaton, was sentenced to prison after being found guilty of possessing and creating indecent images of children. The offences took place over a period of more than five years, with the majority of the illicit material being downloaded between June 2011 and June 2016 in the Redcar area.

According to court records, Langley amassed a staggering collection of over 4,000 images and videos depicting children as young as two being subjected to horrific abuse. Among these, 1,791 images were classified as the most severe category under law, indicating the extreme nature of the material he possessed. The images and videos were described by prosecutors as both distressing and disturbing, highlighting the severity of the crimes committed.

During the hearing at Teesside Crown Court, Langley's defense attorney, John Nixon, provided context for his client’s actions. He explained that Langley initially turned to adult pornography due to personal issues within his marriage. When his internet provider blocked access to certain sites, Langley switched to another program, which he claimed automatically downloaded unlawful material, including images of children. Nixon stated, “He accepts he used that programme knowing it was likely to produce more of the same material,” and emphasized that Langley had deleted all the images he downloaded, asserting that not all of the images were viewed.

It was also revealed that Langley's health had been in decline since 1999, suffering from arthritis and renal failure, which necessitated dialysis three times a week. The court noted that he and his wife separated on the day of his arrest, ending many years of marriage. The 57-year-old defendant pleaded guilty to three counts of making indecent images of children and two charges of possessing prohibited images of children.

Furthermore, the court was informed of a prior conviction from 1999, where Langley was jailed for indecently assaulting two young victims under the age of 13. This history underscored the seriousness of his current offenses.

Judge James Brown, presiding over the case, acknowledged that Langley's initial searches for adult pornography were likely driven by personal issues rather than malicious intent. However, he emphasized that the material Langley downloaded contained children being subjected to the most heinous forms of abuse, describing the images as “frankly hardly to believe.”

Langley, whose address was listed as Drub Lane, Cleckheaton, was sentenced to 16 months in prison. Additionally, the court imposed a ten-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order to restrict his future activities and protect the community from potential harm.
