GRAHAM FORBES FROM CASTLEMILK JAILED FOR HORRIFIC SEXUAL ASSAULT ON BABY IN POLLOK, GLASGOW
In a disturbing case that has shocked the Glasgow community, Graham Forbes, a 32-year-old man from Castlemilk, has been sentenced to five years in prison for a heinous sexual assault on a 13-month-old girl. The assault took place in 2003 at a residence located in the Pollok area of Glasgow, a crime that the court described as 'quite appalling' and deeply troubling.Details of the case revealed that the young victim suffered severe injuries that necessitated reconstructive surgery. The High Court in Glasgow heard that Forbes initially attempted to deny responsibility, claiming that the injuries were caused by a dog. However, he later changed his account, asserting that the injuries were the result of an accident. Despite his changing stories, evidence presented during the trial painted a grim picture of the assault.
It was established that the attack occurred after the child's mother left her in Forbes' care for a brief period of just 15 minutes. Upon her return, she found her daughter visibly distressed and immediately took her to Yorkhill Hospital, concerned about her condition. Medical professionals treated the infant for her injuries, and suspicion was raised about the circumstances surrounding the child's condition. This prompted hospital staff to contact the police family protection squad to investigate further.
The court was informed that, fortunately, the young girl was expected to recover fully from her injuries. During the proceedings, Forbes attempted to downplay the incident, claiming that the assault was not sexual in nature but was instead committed in a moment of anger after the baby interrupted him while he was playing his favorite PlayStation game. This explanation was met with skepticism by the judge.
Judge Alistair Stewart QC delivered the sentence, emphasizing the severity of the crime. He stated, 'This was a quite appalling crime. It has been said on your behalf that there was no sexual element. That may be the view you have taken, but looked at objectively, as I have to do, this was an indecent assault.'
As part of his punishment, Forbes was placed on the sex offenders register and ordered to serve an extended sentence of five years following his release from prison. The court also made it clear that during this period, he would be liable to be recalled to jail if he violated any conditions or committed further offenses, underscoring the seriousness with which the justice system viewed this case.
