April 2006 JAIL FOR SIR WHO WED GIRL OF 16 A TEACHER who eloped to Gretna Green to marry a girl of 16 was jailed for two years yesterday.

Graham Conde, 49, admitted having sex with an underage girl.

Judge Roger Dutton said they had regular sexual contact, adding: “You knew it was wrong.

You knew you could have stopped it.

You should have never allowed it to begin.” Chester crown court heard the science teacher, a divorced father of four, had a relationship with the girl last year.

In March, a court bailed him on condition he had no contact with her.

But four days later they fled to Gretna and married a week after her 16th birthday.

The girl wept in court as Conde was jailed.

He will be on the sex offenders’ register for 10 years.

Conde’s eldest daughter, aged 26, a witness at the marriage, said: “I am on the edge of a nervous breakdown over this.” The girl’s mother said, “I have nothing to say” and slammed her front door.
