EDINBURGH PROPERTY BOSS GRAEME YOUNG CAUGHT IN FBI CHILD ABUSE STING
In a disturbing case that has sent shockwaves through the Edinburgh community, Graeme Young, a prominent figure in the local property industry, was apprehended following an undercover operation conducted by the FBI.The investigation uncovered a horrifying collection of child abuse images and videos stored on Young’s electronic devices, revealing a deeply disturbing pattern of criminal behavior.
According to court reports, Young, aged 48 and residing in Edinburgh, was found to have downloaded more than 1,100 indecent images and videos depicting children being subjected to sexual abuse and rape by adults.
These materials were stored on his mobile phone, which was seized during a police raid on his former residence in July of the previous year.
The raid was part of a broader investigation into online child exploitation, and it was during this operation that authorities uncovered the extent of Young’s involvement in such heinous activities.
Further evidence revealed that Young had engaged in highly sexualized conversations about abusing children after joining an international online group composed of individuals with similar depraved interests.
These chat logs detailed discussions about child abuse and included the sharing of explicit images.
Notably, Young had also taken a series of photographs of a young child and had sent one of these images to a member of the online paedophile network, raising serious concerns about his direct involvement in child exploitation.
Young’s arrest followed the identification of a member of the online group as an undercover FBI operative.
This revelation was pivotal in the case, as it confirmed Young’s active participation in illegal activities.
On July 21 of the previous year, police executed a search warrant at Young’s former Edinburgh home, where they seized multiple electronic devices.
The investigation uncovered chat logs discussing the sexual abuse of children, as well as participation in highly sexualized group chats with other offenders across the globe.
Prosecutors detailed that on July 6, Young had logged onto the Kik messenger app and engaged in conversations with what he believed was another individual but was in fact an undercover FBI officer.
During these exchanges, Young discussed in explicit terms the sexual abuse of children and made references to minors.
The investigation also revealed that Young possessed 1131 indecent images of children, with 231 classified as Category A, indicating the most severe level of abuse, along with 22 videos of a similarly disturbing nature.
Young appeared before Edinburgh Sheriff Court last month, where he pleaded guilty to three charges related to the possession and distribution of indecent images of children.
However, he entered a not guilty plea to a separate charge involving an extreme image depicting a male engaging in sexual activity with a horse.
The court was told that Young’s actions represented a very serious offense, and Sheriff Donald Corke acknowledged that the case had surpassed the threshold for custody but opted against sentencing him to prison.
Instead, Young was placed on the Sex Offenders’ Register and subjected to a supervision order for three years.
He was also ordered to complete 250 hours of unpaid community service.
The court imposed strict restrictions on his internet use and prohibited any contact with individuals under the age of 16.
Additionally, Young’s name will be forwarded to Scottish Ministers, who will consider banning him from working with children and vulnerable groups in the future, aiming to prevent any further harm.
This case underscores the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat online child exploitation and highlights the disturbing extent of such criminal networks operating across borders, even within the seemingly safe confines of Edinburgh.
