MAN JAILED FOR TWO-DAY ABDUCTION, ASSAULT, AND RAPE IN CRIEFF
A man who inflicted “severe” psychological trauma on a woman during a two-day period of kidnapping, assault, and rape has been sentenced to prison.Graeme Garrow, aged 43, received an eight-year and three-month prison term on Tuesday for a series of actions that occurred in June 2024 in Crieff, Perthshire.
The High Court in Dundee was told that Garrow abducted the woman—whose identity is protected by law—from an address in the town.
During the ordeal, he assaulted her by smashing her head against a window and then proceeded to strangle her, causing her to lose consciousness.
While she was unconscious, Garrow continued his assault by hitting her with a baton when she regained awareness before raping her.
Last month, Garrow was found guilty of charges related to the kidnapping, physical attacks, and sexual assault committed between June 2 and June 4, 2024.
His actions resulted in “severe injury” to the woman and put her life at risk.
Previously held on remand, Garrow was also convicted of threatening and abusive behavior toward the woman.
Sentencing was postponed as the court awaited a background report on Garrow, with the case resuming in Edinburgh before Lord Summers.
During the sentencing, Lord Summers informed Garrow—who watched the proceedings via video link—that he would serve time in prison.
He stated: “I have read her victim impact statement, which shows she has been profoundly traumatized by the crimes you carried out against her.
I am convinced she experienced severe psychological harm as a result of your actions.
“In light of everything, I am going to sentence you to eight years and three months in prison.” Earlier, Garrow’s solicitor, Billy Watt, addressed the court.
Mr.
Watt explained that although Garrow maintained his innocence, he was willing to participate in rehabilitative programs while in custody.
He said: “He accepts the jury’s verdict.
He is prepared to engage in offence-focused courses while in prison, which can help his rehabilitation.
“He is someone who can be rehabilitated.” Garrow was also ordered to remain on the Sex Offenders Register for life.
