NORTH-EAST MAN SEXUALLY ASSAULTED WOMAN WHILE SHE WAS SLEEPING
Gordon Whyte, a 67-year-old man from Inverurie, was found guilty of sexually assaulting two women between November 2011 and December 2013.
Despite denying the charges, a jury convicted him after a trial at Aberdeen Sheriff's Court held earlier this year.
The judge sentenced Whyte to 15 months in prison and ordered him to register as a sex offender for a decade.
Evidence presented in court revealed that Whyte exploited his victims multiple times.
Court records detailed that he forcibly kissed and held down one woman who was asleep inside her Inverurie home, while in a separate case at a residence in Oldmeldrum, he groped and pinned another woman to a sofa, grabbing her neck.
The defense highlighted Whyte’s poor health, including diabetes, and criticized the social work report following his conviction.
However, Sheriff Graeme Napier described Whyte’s conduct as arrogant and predatory, noting his sexual interest in the second woman and his prior discussions of sexual topics with the first.
The judge pointed out that the jury had accepted some allegations as true and concluded that a custodial sentence was necessary to properly address Whyte’s actions, resulting in his imprisonment.
Additionally, Whyte was required to register as a sex offender for ten years as part of his sentence.
