EDINBURGH MAN GORDON REID SENTENCED TO SIX YEARS FOR CHILD SEXUAL ABUSE IN THE 1980S
In a case that has shocked the community of Edinburgh, Gordon Reid has been sentenced to six years in prison for a series of heinous sexual assaults committed against young boys during the 1980s.The crimes took place at a flat in Edinburgh, where Reid targeted vulnerable children over an extended period, spanning nearly eight years.
Reid, now 45 years old, appeared before the High Court in Glasgow to face the consequences of his actions after being convicted on four counts of acting in a lewd and libidinous manner.
The court proceedings revealed the disturbing details of his abuse, which began when the victims were as young as six years old.
The trial, held at the High Court in Falkirk, uncovered that Reid's predatory behavior extended over several years, with at least three young boys falling victim to his exploitation.
During the sentencing, Judge Lady Dorrian acknowledged the passage of time since the offenses were committed, noting that Reid had not offended in any relevant way since then.
Despite this, she emphasized the severity of the crimes, describing them as "very serious offences on three young boys at a young age." The judge's remarks underscored the gravity of Reid's actions and the lasting impact on the victims.
Evidence presented during the trial detailed how Reid's abuse began when the boys were approximately six years old.
It was also alleged that he had assaulted another boy, aged between five and seven at the time.
Additionally, prosecutors claimed that Reid attempted to coerce a teenage boy into performing a sex act in exchange for a hi-fi stereo.
However, Reid was acquitted of these particular allegations, and they did not factor into his sentencing.
The police became involved in the case after one of Reid’s victims confronted him about the abuse at his home two years prior to his arrest.
This confrontation prompted an investigation that ultimately led to Reid’s conviction and subsequent imprisonment.
The case has brought to light the disturbing reality of child abuse occurring within seemingly ordinary settings and has sparked renewed calls for vigilance and protection of vulnerable children in Edinburgh and beyond.
