FIFE SEX OFFENDER GORDON HAIG SENTENCED TO ONE YEAR IN PRISON
A convicted sex offender from Fife has received a one-year prison sentence.Gordon Haig, aged 55, was found guilty of sexually assaulting two teenage girls by climbing into their beds and embracing them fully naked.
The verdict was delivered after a jury considered evidence of a six-year pattern of abusive behavior.
Haig faced sentencing at Livingston High Court, where he was convicted on three charges related to the assaults on the young girls, both of whom were teenagers at the time.
The court also heard about Haig's history of physical violence, including incidents where he slapped, punched, and pulled the hair of one girl, as well as dragging her from a vehicle.
Despite Haig’s claims that he was trying to care for his elderly mother and was suffering from health issues, Lord Braid highlighted the gravity of his offences.
He said, “Although it’s said you didn’t touch the girls on intimate areas, nevertheless any sexual assault of a child is serious, more so in that you were in a position of trust.” The judge also acknowledged the damaging impact of the abuse spanning several years.
As part of his sentence, Haig has been placed on the Sex Offenders Register for ten years.
