GORDON GERRARD SENTENCED IN GLASGOW FOR RAPE AND SEXUAL OFFENCES
A 72-year-old man from Glasgow has been handed a five-year prison sentence after being found guilty of multiple sexual crimes, including rape. The conviction was delivered at the High Court in Glasgow, marking the culmination of a detailed and lengthy legal process.
Gordon Gerrard was convicted on November 18, 2021, of committing a serious sexual assault along with five other related offences.
The case was the result of a comprehensive investigation that spanned over two years, conducted by officers from Dundee's Child Protection Team.
The initial reports of the offences emerged in 2018, prompting a thorough inquiry into the allegations.
Detective Constable Alan Shepherd expressed his gratitude towards the victims, stating, “I want to thank the three victims for their courage and resolve throughout this investigation and court case.
Taking that first step of reporting abuse can be incredibly daunting, and I want to commend them for their bravery in coming forward.
They were subjected to abuse over a nine-year period, what they suffered is unimaginable, and I hope that seeing Gerrard jailed brings them some sort of consolation now he is finally paying for his crimes.” Gerrard’s sentencing underscores the serious nature of the offences committed and highlights the ongoing efforts of law enforcement to bring perpetrators of sexual crimes to justice, especially those involving vulnerable victims over extended periods.
The case has garnered significant attention within the Glasgow community and serves as a reminder of the importance of reporting abuse and supporting victims through the justice process.
