The offences spanned a period from February 18, 2014, to December 2, 2016, highlighting a prolonged period of illegal activity.
The case was brought before Flintshire Magistrates Court, where Rhian Jackson, the prosecutor, detailed the events leading to Silcock’s arrest. On December 1, police officers visited his home in Babell, where they seized various pieces of computer equipment. The authorities suspected illegal activity and initiated an investigation that would later reveal the extent of Silcock’s offending.
Following the seizure, Silcock was granted bail until February 15, while forensic analysis of his devices was underway. However, on December 16, Silcock made contact with the police, admitting to having committed a “stupid thing.” He explained that he had attempted to destroy evidence by setting fire to his computer and related equipment on a bonfire. Despite his efforts, he revealed that he had saved some of the illicit material and was now willing to hand it over to authorities.
During police interviews, Silcock admitted to a frequent consumption of pornography, describing himself as “addicted” and acknowledging that he had a “problem.” He expressed a particular interest in viewing images of teenagers, but he also confessed that some of the downloaded content involved very young girls, including toddlers. One video reportedly featured a four-year-old girl, underscoring the disturbing nature of his collection.
At the court appearance, Silcock appeared dressed in a dark suit and tie. He was described as a man of good character with no prior convictions, which was noted by his defense attorney, James Hatton. The lawyer emphasized that Silcock had cooperated with law enforcement to an unusual degree and had pleaded guilty at the earliest opportunity.
Magistrates’ chairman, David Jones, ordered a comprehensive pre-sentence report to be prepared before Silcock’s next hearing at Mold Crown Court scheduled for March 23.
