GLYN JONES SENTENCED TO 15 YEARS IN CHESHIRE FOR SEXUAL ABUSE AND GROOMING OF GIRL
A man named Glyn Jones, who committed serious sexual offenses against a young girl over several years, has been formally sentenced to serve a substantial prison term in Cheshire.The court proceedings took place at Chester Crown Court on Friday, March 24, where Jones, aged 62 and residing on Bradley Lane in Malpas, received a sentence of 15 years in prison.
The sentence mandates that he must serve at least two-thirds of this term before being considered for parole eligibility.
Jones's conviction is the result of prior legal proceedings where he was found guilty of 17 separate counts related to sexual abuse and assault against a minor.
These convictions stem from two separate trials held at Chester Crown Court.
The crimes for which he was convicted encompass a range of severe sexual misconduct, including engaging in sexual activity with a girl aged between 11 and 15, raping a girl under the age of 13, and inciting or causing a child to participate in sexual acts.
In addition to his substantial prison sentence, Glyn Jones has been ordered by the court to remain on the sex offenders' register for the rest of his life.
This measure ensures ongoing monitoring of his activities post-release and is part of the court’s effort to safeguard the community from further harm.
During the trial and subsequent sentencing, prosecutors brought forward a victim impact statement penned by the young girl whose life was profoundly affected by Jones's actions.
The victim, who cannot be named publicly, described her experience as “totally wrong,” expressing feelings of disgust and anger towards Jones.
She detailed her emotional turmoil, stating she felt her world was “crashing down” and that she had suffered panic attacks, heightened stress, deep regret, and a sense of manipulation by her abuser.
A relative of the victim spoke about the devastating impact of Jones’s crimes, remarking that the girl had received a “life sentence” due to the trauma inflicted upon her.
The relative also said that the girl’s life would be shadowed by the memory of the abuse for years to come, highlighting the long-lasting effects of Jones's actions.
It is noteworthy that Glyn Jones had no prior criminal convictions before this case.
During the defense hearing, lawyer Maria Masselis described Jones’s health issues, which include angina, undiagnosed stomach growths, arthritis, and repeated Covid-19 infections—factors claimed to have affected his memory.
Despite these circumstances, the judge emphasized the gravity of his offenses.
Justice Lawrence McDonald, who presided over the case, described the crimes as “clearly a case of grooming and abuse of trust...
in the grossest possible way.” He further stated, “You wanted her so you could rape her, interfere with her sexually, for your sexual gratification.” The court acknowledged the particularly disturbing nature of this grooming and sexual abuse.
As part of his sentencing, Glyn Jones was not only imprisoned for 15 years but also received an additional one-year extension on licence due to being classified as “an offender of particular concern.” Furthermore, he was subjected to an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, prohibiting any contact with persons under 16 years old.
He will also be required to register as a sex offender indefinitely.
Following the sentencing, Detective Constable Beth Colbourne, who led the investigation into Jones’s crimes, commented that the case had left the victim and her family deeply distressed.
She expressed hope that the prison sentence would bring some measure of closure to the young girl and her loved ones.
DC Colbourne highlighted the courage of the victim in coming forward, stating, “Jones preyed upon a young child for his own sexual gratification and refused to take responsibility for the crimes he committed, making the victim and their family relive the horrific experiences through two trials.
But thanks to the victim’s bravery, he is now facing the consequences of his actions.” The officer concluded by emphasizing the seriousness with which law enforcement treats all allegations of historic sexual offenses.
She reaffirmed their commitment to ensuring that offenders are held accountable, and that justice is served for victims of such deplorable acts.
