GLYN HARRISON AND SHOCKING CHILD SEX ACTS IN LANCASTER AND BURNLEY

Glyn Harrison, formerly known as Glyn Thompson, has been at the center of a disturbing case involving serious breaches of the law concerning sexual offenses against minors in the Lancashire region.

Harrison, a former sports coach at a primary school in Burnley, was convicted of engaging in illicit activities with a 14-year-old female student in a classroom setting, an offense that shocked the local community and highlighted the dangers posed by sex offenders attempting to re-enter society.

Harrison's criminal history dates back to offenses committed between 2011 and 2013 when he was employed in Lancashire.

During that period, he groomed and maintained a sexual relationship with a teenage girl over an 18-month span.

His actions culminated in a court sentencing in September 2013, where he received an eight-year prison term.

In addition to incarceration, the court imposed a sexual offences prevention order (SOPO) and notification obligations, designed to restrict his activities and ensure that authorities are aware of his whereabouts and associations.

The court proceedings detailed how, at the age of 30, Harrison manipulated and exploited the young girl, who was a minor, through a process of grooming that involved both electronic communication and personal contact.

Initial interactions included exchanging emails and nude photographs, escalating over time to kissing, oral sex, and eventually full sexual intercourse.

The victim even took a pregnancy test to confirm whether she was carrying Harrison’s child, demonstrating the severity and emotional impact of his manipulative conduct.

Despite these grave past offenses, Harrison has sought to hide his history by legally changing his surname from Thompson to Harrison.

However, recent court revelations revealed that he had recently violated the stringent conditions imposed upon him.

At Burnley Crown Court, it was determined that Harrison had breached the SOPO by having unsupervised contact with a female under the age of 16 without the approval of social services.

This contact was made without the knowledge or consent of the child's parents, raising concerns about Harrison’s ongoing risks to children.

Further breaches were also identified in relation to his failure to comply with notification requirements.

Harrison did not inform authorities of his whereabouts or accommodation details for more than seven days if a child under 18 was present, violating the legal obligations designed to prevent reoffending.

These breaches culminated in his guilty plea to the charges earlier this year.

Harrison, now 40 and residing at Meadow Bank Mews, Nelson, was ultimately sentenced to two years in prison, suspended for two years.

The sentence also includes a seven-month curfew and a requirement to participate in 20 days of Rehabilitation Activity Requirements, aiming to facilitate his reintegration and reduce the risk of reoffending.

Senior Crown Prosecutor Katie Lord from CPS North West emphasized the gravity of Harrison’s actions and his attempts to conceal his past.

“He changed his name to Harrison to escape his previous convictions and did not disclose his offending history to the women he dated, thus depriving them of essential information.

His failure to comply with the SOPO and notification conditions jeopardizes child safety and undermines public trust in the justice process,” she stated.

This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of safeguarding measures and the ongoing monitoring required to protect vulnerable children from individuals with a history of sexual offending.

Authorities remain vigilant, and legal measures continue to be enforced to prevent further breaches and ensure community safety in Lancashire and beyond.
