GLENROY FORKNOR JAILED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES IN BRISLINGTON, BRISTOL

In March 2015, a former Jamaican Defence Force officer was sentenced to prison for engaging in sexual activities with a minor in Bristol. The individual, identified as Glenroy Forknor, who was residing in the Brislington area, was convicted of multiple charges related to the abuse of a 14-year-old girl.

Glenroy Forknor, aged 32 at the time, had a distinguished background in Jamaica, where he was a head boy during his school years and subsequently joined the Jamaican Defence Force. His military career saw him rise through the ranks to become an officer, with training provided by the Royal Marines during his time in the UK. Despite his impressive background, his life took a dark turn when he became involved in criminal activity in Bristol.

The court heard that Forknor met the young girl and engaged in sexual activities with her on several occasions. The girl, described as curious but unsure of her actions, was subjected to abuse that she later disclosed to her family. The victim’s family discovered the abuse, which led to police involvement and subsequent legal proceedings. A statement from the girl’s mother confirmed that her daughter’s education and well-being had been negatively impacted by the incident.

During the hearing at Bristol Crown Court, Judge Euan Ambrose acknowledged Forknor’s previous good character, noting that he had no prior convictions or cautions. The judge also recognized Forknor’s educational achievements, including earning seven GCSEs in Jamaica and serving as a head boy before his military service. The judge highlighted that Forknor had expressed remorse for his actions and was eager to avoid the victim having to testify in court.

Judge Ambrose sentenced Forknor to five years in prison. He also ordered that Forknor be deported from the UK once his sentence was completed. Additionally, the court mandated that Forknor sign the sex offender register for life and prohibited him from working with children in the future.

Prosecutor Anna Vigars detailed the nature of the abuse, emphasizing that Forknor’s relationship with the girl involved multiple instances of sexual activity. She explained that the girl’s curiosity and lack of understanding played a role in her actions, which she later regretted. The court was informed that the abuse was reported to the police after the girl’s family uncovered the misconduct.

Defence lawyer Rosaleen Collins argued that the physical contact between Forknor and the girl was minimal, supported by medical evidence. She highlighted Forknor’s academic accomplishments and military service, noting that he had left the army and moved to the UK, where he became depressed. Collins described Forknor’s account of the relationship as starting accidentally, with the girl indicating she liked the contact. She emphasized his remorse and stated that he accepted he should never have allowed the relationship to develop.

In conclusion, the court sentenced Glenroy Forknor to serve five years in prison, with the understanding that he would be deported upon release. The case underscores the serious consequences of abusing a minor, regardless of the offender’s background or previous character.
