GLENARD BEAUMONT FROM MANNINGHAM SENTENCED FOR SEXUAL OFFENSES IN BRADFORD AND LONDON

In a case that has drawn significant attention, 52-year-old Glenard Beaumont from Manningham was sentenced to two years in prison after being convicted of engaging in sexual activities with a minor. The incident first came to light in March 2005, when Beaumont was found guilty of having sex with a 13-year-old girl, an act that led to his imprisonment.

According to court records, Beaumont met the young girl, who was then only 13, at Lumb Lane in Bradford. At the time, she was accompanied by two prostitutes, and Beaumont's initial motive for being in the area was to purchase crack cocaine. The court heard that after their encounter, Beaumont took the girl to his flat located on Church Street in Manningham. There, he engaged in consensual sexual activity with her and also committed another sexual act, which contributed to his conviction.

Beaumont had pleaded guilty to two charges of sexual activity with a child during the proceedings. His earlier not guilty pleas to charges of rape, assault by penetration, and false imprisonment were accepted by the court. Prosecutor Richard Mansell provided context, explaining that the girl, who was now 14, was attempting to escape her home in Bradford to stay with a prostitute friend. Social Services and Barnardo’s were actively seeking to locate her and return her safely to her family.

On August 16, the girl managed to evade police and was seen on the street at around 10:30 pm. She approached Beaumont, asking if she could stay at his flat. She later reported that she had smoked cannabis at his residence. The following morning, at approximately 10 am, she left through a window and told a passer-by that Beaumont had tried to have sex with her. She also confided in a Barnardo’s representative that Beaumont had “done all sorts of things to her” during the night.

Beaumont, when questioned by police, claimed he believed the girl was 17 or 18 years old. He admitted to having sex with her but was unaware of her true age at the time. It was only after the act that she revealed she was 13 and a virgin. Defense lawyer Paul Fleming argued that Beaumont was not a predatory paedophile, emphasizing that his client’s actions were influenced by substance misuse and poor judgment after consuming drugs and alcohol. Fleming highlighted Beaumont’s struggles with drug dependency and his desire to reform.

Judge Scott Wolstenholme, presiding over the case, noted that the probation service did not consider Beaumont a risk to children. The judge also pointed out that Beaumont lived in an area known for prostitution and that his encounter with the girl was purely coincidental. As part of his sentence, Beaumont will be required to register as a sex offender for ten years.

In a separate incident in September 2010, Beaumont was convicted of sexually assaulting a woman on the London Underground. The British Transport Police announced that Beaumont, aged 58 at the time, received a sentence of two and a half years in prison and was placed on the sex offenders register. Howard Collins, Chief Operating Officer of London Underground, expressed the organization’s commitment to passenger safety, stating, “While these sort of offences are extremely rare on the Tube, we want Londoners travelling on our network to feel safe. This is why we work closely with the British Transport Police, who were able to make an arrest without delay. Beaumont is now behind bars where he belongs, and this sentence should reassure passengers that London Underground and the courts take these despicable crimes very seriously.”
