GLEN DICKINSON JAILED IN NEWCASTLE FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF CHILD
A convicted sex offender has been remanded in custody following his sentencing for serious sexual assaults on a seven-year-old girl.Glen Dickinson, aged 37 and residing on Kearsley Close, Seaton Delaval, Northumberland, had previously served time for abusing another young girl under the age of 10.
He was sentenced to 11 years in prison after the second victim made a brave disclosure to the police about his actions.
During his appearance at Newcastle Crown Court, a victim impact statement from the girl was read out, revealing the profound psychological toll of the abuse.
She stated, "I have been left with anxiety and depression and had to move because I felt people knew what had happened.
I'm scared to go out alone and can’t face going near the area where this happened.
I experience flashbacks and nightmares and struggle to sleep.
Even though he’s in jail, it doesn’t erase what he did to me.
This will stay with me for life, and no sentence will change that." The statement highlighted the devastating impact of Dickinson’s actions, with the girl adding, “I’m also serving a sentence, except mine is for life.” Dickinson was found guilty by a jury of two serious sexual assaults against the young girl.
His previous conviction was for similar offenses in 2014, meaning his recent offending occurred beforehand but only recently became known.
Judge Tim Gittins described Dickinson as having an "abhorrent paedophilic interest" in young girls.
Addressing the victim directly, he said, “She had to keep a dreadful secret and has been deeply affected by your actions, which continue to impact her.” The judge emphasized that the abuse had left her “hurt and distressed” and stated, “What you have done to her will endure, no doubt, for some time.” Further, Judge Gittins condemned Dickinson as a “dangerous offender” who poses a significant risk of causing serious harm to girls in the future.
He imposed an 11-year prison sentence, complemented by an extended one-year license period.
Dickinson is also subject to sex offender registration requirements and a sexual offences prevention order that were put in place following his 2014 conviction, which remain active.
