ALBANIAN MAN JAILED FOR SERIES OF BUS SEXUAL ASSAULTS IN LONDON
A man named Giorge Zhukas, an Albanian national with no fixed abode, was sentenced to 18 months in prison after admitting to a series of sexual assaults on women and at least one teenage girl on buses in east London.
The assaults took place in Walthamstow and Ilford between August 11 and October 16 of the previous year.
Zhukas, 47, was arrested on October 20 following police identification from CCTV footage captured on one of the buses.
In four of these offenses, the CCTV footage was of such high quality that the Crown Prosecution Service authorized charges even though the victims had not been identified.
The court heard that one of his victims was a 13-year-old girl, and the oldest victim was 43.
Zhukas pleaded guilty to nine counts of sexual assault and was sentenced at Snaresbrook Crown Court.
Additionally, he was placed on the sex offenders register for ten years and was informed that he would be deported after completing his sentence.
The police and transport authorities commended the victims' bravery for reporting these crimes, which led to Zhukas's conviction and imprisonment.
Detective Superintendent Adnan Qureshi highlighted that thanks to the victims' actions, Zhukas received a significant sentence and deportation, encouraging others to come forward with information about similar crimes.
