MAN WHO BRUTALLY RAPED WOMAN OVER 12 HOURS RECEIVES 12-YEAR SENTENCE
A man who repeatedly raped and sexually assaulted a woman over several hours has been given a 12-year sentence with the final year suspended.Gintaras Jankevicius (53) told the woman he was going to keep her in his home until she was pregnant.
He gave her a knife and told her to use it if she wanted him to stop.
The woman did not stab him because she believed she could not kill him and feared worse if she only wounded him.
The Central Criminal Court heard that Jankevicius, of Bridge Meadows, Enniscorthy, Co Wexford, pleaded guilty to rape, sexual assault, and false imprisonment at a prior address on October 11, 2022.
The court heard that the woman, who is happy for Jankevicius to be identified, is in a state of significant emotional distress following the incident, experiencing nightmares, anxiety, and difficulty trusting others.
Jankevicius, currently serving a three-year sentence for a drugs offence, has previous convictions in the Czech Republic for robbery and in the UK for criminal damage and drugs.
The judge imposed a 12-year sentence to be served consecutive to his existing sentence, and suspended the final year on strict conditions, including no contact with the victim, abstaining from alcohol and drugs, and undertaking offence-focused work.
Five years of post-release supervision was also ordered.
