2019: BLACK COUNTRY MAN JAILED FOR VICIOUS ATTACK ON ELDERLY GRANDMOTHER
An individual from the Black Country who severely punched his 94-year-old grandmother in the face after an argument has been handed an 18-month prison term. The elderly woman, who exhibited early signs of dementia, was left stunned and emotionally shaken by the assault, as stated by prosecutor Blondell Thompson at Wolverhampton Crown Court.
She detailed that the violent blow resulted in a cut to her head and a superficial wound on her hand from a fall.
Following the attack, Billingham also shattered a window at her house and falsely reported to authorities that his grandmother was responsible for the damage.
The court heard that the 39-year-old admitted to having a knife, engaging in disorderly conduct, inflicting physical harm, and causing criminal damage.
The judge declared that only a direct prison sentence would be appropriate in this case.
While Billingham had a history of good conduct, he had previously been involved in an incident where he brandished a kitchen knife during a dispute over a woman staying at his residence.
During that event, he was found sitting on the pavement, appearing semi-conscious.
The altercation originated from racial abuse directed at another man, leading to physical blows, and Billingham being kicked in the head as someone attempted to seize the knife.
Despite his remorse and past care for his grandmother, the severity of his recent crimes led the judge to conclude that imprisonment was necessary.
