A man named Ghulam Younis, aged 22 and residing on Woodlands Road in Glasgow, has been convicted of raping a 20-year-old prostitute.
The incident occurred after she agreed to go with Younis in his car, during which she initially believed he would pay her for sex, but later discovered he had no money.
When she insisted on being paid before sexual activity, he raped her instead.
He was sentenced to three and a half years in prison by Lord Reed at the High Court in Edinburgh.
The judge praised the victim and other sex workers who report attacks, highlighting that "Prostitutes are vulnerable and should be protected by the law.
I am pleased to see they are coming forward with complaints which result in conviction." The victim, who was addicted to heroin, charged £30 for full sex and had gone to the location willingly.
Her defense attorney noted she had not been injured and there were no long-term effects.
The court considered that Younis had used a condom and the victim's familiarity with strangers, which influenced the sentencing outcome.
