Lockerbie man Gerald Wilson jailed for raping seven-year-old girl
A man who raped a seven-year-old girl and then told her to stop crying because only two-year-olds cried has been jailed for 10 years.
Gerald Wilson, 67, of Lockerbie, admitted raping and sexually abusing the girl over a five-year period in the 1990s.
He also sexually abused three other children.
At the High Court in Glasgow, Judge Lady Scott told him his offences were “truly appalling”.
“You treated your child victims as objects for your own sexual gratification,” she said.
“The effect on them is likely to be long-lasting and extremely difficult to overcome.
“You raped your first victim when she was seven or eight. She kept telling you to stop and you told her not to cry.
“You raped her regularly until she was 12.”
The court heard that Wilson abused his second victim, a boy, when he was aged between 6 and 13, on an almost daily basis.
H
is other victims – a boy and a girl – were ordered to take part in a “game” where Wilson sexually abused them.
This abuse began when they were aged three and five.
Lady Scott placed Wilson on the sex offenders’ register and ordered him to be monitored for two years after his release from prison.
The court heard that the abuse took place in the Dumfries and Galloway area between 1987 and 1994.
He was charged after one of his victims went to the police in 2013 and an investigation was launched.
Wilson has previous convictions for lewd and libidinous practices and was jailed for two years in 2001.
Defence counsel George Gebbie said: “He accepts what he did.
“By pleading guilty Mr Wilson spared his victims from having to give evidence. He intends to seek help while in prison.”
