GERALD MASON FROM CAERPHILLY SENTENCED TO 20 YEARS FOR HORRIFIC SEXUAL ABUSE OF YOUNG GIRLS
In August 2021, a man in his seventies, Gerald Mason, was sentenced to a lengthy prison term of 20 years after being convicted of a series of heinous sexual offenses committed against young girls over a span of several years.Mason, a resident of Caerphilly, was found guilty of repeatedly abusing his victims, some as young as six years old, during a period that extended from the late 1990s into the mid-2000s.
The court heard that Mason's abuse was both systematic and deeply disturbing.
One of his victims, a young girl, was forced to pose naked for Mason so he could take a photograph with his Polaroid camera, an act that added a layer of humiliation and trauma to her ordeal.
Another victim was intimidated into silence by Mason, who warned her that if she ever disclosed what was happening, she would never see her family again.
These threats and acts of coercion underscored the manipulative and predatory nature of Mason's conduct.

Judge Daniel Williams addressed Mason directly, stating that in today’s more enlightened times, his earlier conviction would likely have resulted in a harsher sentence.
The judge criticized Mason for cultivating an image of being a 'nice guy' while secretly targeting vulnerable children for decades.
He commended the victims for their bravery in coming forward and giving evidence, noting that Mason's refusal to admit guilt could have spared the victims the trauma of reliving their abuse in court.
In his sentencing remarks, Judge Williams emphasized that Mason’s actions had caused lasting damage.
Mason, of Grange Close, Trecenydd, Caerphilly, was sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison.
He will serve two-thirds of this sentence behind bars before being eligible for release on license, with the remaining time to be served in the community.
Additionally, Mason was declared a lifelong registered sex offender and was subjected to a lifelong sexual harm prevention order, restricting his access to young girls and monitoring his behavior to prevent further offenses.
