GERALD FRANK'S TRAGIC END IN DURHAM JAIL: YORK PEDOPHILE DIES AFTER SMUGGLING BOY INTO PRISON
In a grim and disturbing case that has shocked the community of York, Gerald Frank, an 81-year-old man with a long history of sexual offenses, has died while in custody at Frankland Prison in Durham.His death occurred shortly after he was transferred to the prison, where he was serving a five-year sentence for indecency.

He was notably involved in a heinous scheme in June 1998, where he managed to deceive prison guards into believing that a young boy he had helped smuggle into Strangeways jail in Manchester was the son of Stephen Carruthers, a convicted child sex offender from York.
Carruthers, who was serving a seven-year sentence for indecency, had previously been involved in a series of sexual assaults on young boys.
The incident took place on Carruthers’ 40th birthday, during which Frank, who was wheelchair-bound and suffering from various health issues, facilitated the entry of the boy into the prison.
Details of the incident reveal that Frank and Carruthers conspired to bring the child into the prison under false pretenses.
The guards were deceived into believing the boy was Carruthers’ son, allowing him to be present in the facility where he was later subjected to abuse.
During police investigations, it was uncovered that Carruthers had a history of violent sexual offenses, having previously taken both a boy and his brother from the street into his flat in York and subjected them to serious sexual assault behind locked doors and nailed-down windows.
Frank’s involvement in these acts was confirmed when he molested one of the young victims in a bedroom while the victim’s mother was at the front door, asking Carruthers if he knew where her son was.
Following his arrest, Frank was sentenced to five years for his role in the indecency.
He was living in Manchester at the time of his incarceration, but he had relatives in York and Leeds who were informed of his death late Thursday night.
The incident that led to his death occurred in June 2001, when Frank, who had been experiencing health problems, was seen by medical staff at Frankland Prison.
He was subsequently transferred to a university hospital in Durham for further checks.
Despite efforts by medical personnel to revive him after he collapsed, Frank was pronounced dead at the prison later that evening.
Durham Police confirmed that a post-mortem examination was pending, but they assured the public that there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding his death.
