GEORGI IVANOV JAILED IN PENGE FOR SEXUAL ABUSE OF 13-YEAR-OLD GIRL

In June 2014, Georgi Ivanov, a 19-year-old man from Penge, was sentenced to 18 months in prison after pleading guilty to two counts of sexual activity with a minor.

The case stemmed from Ivanov’s online grooming of a 13-year-old girl he met in 2013. The two connected on Facebook, where their conversations quickly turned sexual despite her profile clearly indicating her age.

Ivanov then invited her to his flat on Penge High Street, where they engaged in sexual activity. Following these encounters, he expressed concern that police might investigate due to her age. Despite this, he continued to meet her and maintain a sexual relationship.

It was only on December 9, when the girl was reported missing, that police located her at Ivanov’s home. Initially, Ivanov denied knowing that the victim was underage, but police confirmed that he only pleaded guilty when presented with substantial evidence from Facebook.

Detective Inspector Jim Pryde commented on the case, stating, "It is not acceptable for older men to prey on children for their own sexual gratification. The defendant knew the victim's age yet continued to abuse her believing he would get away with it."

He added a warning that there may be other victims: "I believe there may be other children who have been abused by Georgi Ivanov. I urge them to come forward and, for that matter, any victim of sexual abuse."
