GEORGE YOUNG'S SHOCKING CRIMES IN SUNDERLAND: SEX OFFENDER HID SECRET PHONE AND VIOLATED ORDERS

In a recent development in Sunderland, a convicted sex offender named George Young has been sentenced to prison after it was revealed that he deliberately concealed a mobile phone from authorities, violating the strict conditions of his previous convictions and court orders.

Young, aged 44 and residing on Gladstone Street in Sunderland, was found to have failed to declare all of his communication devices to the police, a requirement stemming from his 2018 conviction for possessing child abuse images. This breach came to light during a police visit to his home in February, when officers initially questioned him about his possessions.

During the police inspection, Young insisted that he did not possess a mobile phone. However, officers discovered a mobile device hidden within his residence, along with a bank card that Young had not disclosed to authorities. These findings contradicted his earlier statements and raised suspicions about his compliance with legal obligations.

Prosecutor Rachel Kelly outlined that Young had previously been convicted seven times for breaches related to his sexual offences and was serving a suspended sentence at the time of the latest incident. His failure to declare the phone and the bank card was considered a serious breach of the notification requirements and a violation of a sexual harm prevention order imposed upon him.

Judge Gavin Doig addressed the court, emphasizing the severity of Young’s criminal history. He stated that Young’s multiple convictions for sexual offences and repeated breaches of court orders left no alternative but to impose a custodial sentence. As a result, Young was sentenced to a total of 13 and a half months in prison.

During the hearing, Young’s defense lawyer, Helen Towers, argued that her client suffers from health issues and leads an isolated lifestyle. She also pointed out that no illegal content was found on the phone during the search. Young himself told police that he believed the phone did not have internet access and thought he was not required to declare it.

In a separate incident from 2018, Young was involved in a case where he accompanied his girlfriend while she babysat her grandchildren overnight. Despite his criminal past, he kept his history a secret from the family. The court heard that Young had stayed overnight at his girlfriend’s house on multiple occasions without informing the authorities, even though he was legally obliged to do so.

Judge Julie Clemitson addressed the court, highlighting that Young had not disclosed his convictions or the existence of a sexual harm prevention order to his partner or her daughter. This lack of disclosure meant they were unaware of any potential risk he might pose to the children present. The judge emphasized that Young’s deliberate non-compliance demonstrated a significant risk of further offending, whether through online indecent images or more direct sexual offences.

Young, who has no fixed address, admitted to failing to comply with notification requirements and breaching the sexual harm prevention order. The court found no evidence of any harm or illegal activity directed towards the children during his visits, and searches of his devices revealed no illegal content.

Judge Clemitson sentenced Young to 22 months in prison, citing his wilful refusal to adhere to court orders and the ongoing risk he posed. Defense lawyer Jamie Adams argued that Young, who has been in custody on remand for over a year and is expected to be released soon, suffers from significant health problems and lacks support, as his mother has expressed her desire not to have him at her home. Adams added that Young is a human being who has endured considerable suffering.

These cases underscore the ongoing challenges faced by authorities in monitoring and managing individuals with a history of sexual offences, especially those who attempt to conceal their communications and violate court-imposed restrictions in Sunderland.
