GEORGE PORTER FROM SUNDERLAND JAILED FOR SEX OFFENCES AGAINST CHILD
In March 2022, a disturbing case unfolded in Sunderland involving George Porter, a pensioner who was ultimately branded a 'monster' by the court for his heinous crimes against a young child.Porter, who resided on Front Street, Newbottle, Sunderland, had previously led a life free of any criminal record, making his subsequent actions all the more shocking.
Porter was found guilty of multiple serious charges, including causing or inciting a child to engage in sexual activity, as well as two counts of sexual assault.
His guilty pleas spared the young victim from having to relive the traumatic events in court, but the emotional scars inflicted are expected to last a lifetime.
At Newcastle Crown Court, Recorder Carl Gumsley sentenced Porter to four years in prison, with an additional one-year extended license period.
The court also mandated that Porter register as a sex offender for the rest of his life and adhere to a sexual harm prevention order for five years.
These measures are designed to monitor and restrict his activities following his release.
During the sentencing, Recorder Gumsley described the impact of Porter’s actions as profoundly damaging, stating that Porter subjected the child to a 'terrifying and traumatic experience.' He emphasized the difficulty in assessing the full extent of the harm caused, noting that the long-term effects on the victim are likely incalculable at this stage.
The victim’s family was present during the court proceedings and read impact statements on behalf of the young person.
They described Porter’s crimes as 'wicked and depraved,' expressing that the victim’s life has been 'tainted by a monster.' The family’s statement highlighted the enduring psychological toll, stating, 'How do you measure the psychological impact this will have.
He has sentenced (the child) to a lifetime of horrors and flashbacks.' This case underscores the devastating consequences of sexual offences against children and the ongoing efforts of the justice system to protect vulnerable individuals and hold offenders accountable.
