GEORGE MILLAN CAUGHT IN EDINBURGH SCHEME TO MEET 14-YEAR-OLD GIRL FOR SEX
In May 2018, a disturbing incident unfolded in Edinburgh involving a 67-year-old pensioner named George Millan. The elderly man was caught in a sting operation conducted by members of the Child Protectors Scotland group, who had set up a fake online profile to expose potential predators targeting minors.
Millan had been under suspicion after he expressed a desire to meet a young girl he believed was only 14 years old, named Amy, for sexual activity.
Millan had communicated with the fake profile, which was operated by the vigilante group, and during their exchanges, he made explicit comments indicating his intentions.
He told the fictitious girl, “I would love to be your first,” revealing his inappropriate interest.
The group’s members, posing as the underage girl, responded to his messages, which included lewd propositions and requests for sexual acts.
Millan’s responses were equally explicit, with him stating he did not mind her age and expressing a desire to help her undress and be her first.
According to prosecutor Kim Schofield, Millan arranged to meet the girl last December.
The vigilantes had set up the scenario by messaging him from a fake WhatsApp account, and during the encounter, one of the group members shouted out “George,” prompting him to respond with “yeah that’s me.” When he arrived at the designated meeting point outside an estate agents in Edinburgh, he was confronted by the vigilantes who had been watching him.
The confrontation led to Millan’s arrest and subsequent court proceedings.
At Edinburgh Sheriff Court, he pleaded guilty to attempting to arrange an illegal sexual encounter with a minor.
Sheriff Michael O’Grady decided to defer sentencing and ordered Millan to be placed on the sex offenders register, emphasizing the seriousness of his actions.
Following the court session, Millan expressed his frustration, claiming, “I got stitched up.
I lost my job and this has destroyed my family.” His comments reflected his discontent with the outcome of the sting operation and the legal consequences he faced.
Sophie Hunt, founder of the Child Protectors Scotland group, commented on the case, stating, “If we can keep one child safe, it would be worth it.” The incident highlights ongoing efforts by community groups and law enforcement to combat online grooming and protect vulnerable minors from predators in Edinburgh and beyond.
