MAN JAILED FOR GROOMING 15-YEAR-OLD GIRL ONLINE
A man has been jailed after he groomed a teenage girl online and pressured her to send indecent images.
George Michael Casson, 30, created a fake profile on a social app where he pretended to be a 16-year-old boy named Ty, York Crown Court heard.
The court was told he had used the profile to gain the trust of the 15-year-old victim and eventually threatened her into sending photos of herself.
Casson, who lives on the outskirts of York, was jailed for 19 months on Tuesday and placed on the Sex Offenders Register, after previously admitting engaging in sexual communication with a child.
The communication happened between 31 January and 31 March 2022 when he befriended the girl, from Buckinghamshire, on the Litmatch social community app.
As well as pretending to be "Ty", Casson also used two other fake profiles acting as Ty's brother and another person who was a "gang member".
During this time, the girl was engaged in sexual conversation and repeatedly pressured to send indecent images of herself.
Threats were made to share the images with her family and her school if she refused to send more to Casson.
The victim's parents noticed she had become withdrawn and were able to intervene when they saw the messages.
They reported the matter to police and the suspect was traced to North Yorkshire.
