BORDERS MAN JAILED FOR CHILD PORNOGRAPHY DOWNLOAD

A Borders factory worker named George Jackson, aged 46, who downloaded 2,000 images depicting child sex abuse has been sentenced to two years in prison.

Sheriff Paul Wade described the images found on Jackson's home computer as "utterly vile" and expressed concern that Jackson was in denial about his actions.

Jackson was convicted by a jury at Jedburgh Sheriff Court for possessing the pictures—found on his computer between March and September 2009—including 33 images at level four, which is considered the second most serious category of child pornography.

The court was informed that social workers regarded him as a high risk of re-offending.

Besides his prison sentence, Jackson received an additional two-year monitoring order upon release, a ten-year ban from working with children, a sexual offences prevention order for five years, and his name was placed on the sex offenders register for a decade.

Despite this, Jackson continued to deny knowledge of the offence, claiming to social workers that his conviction was "juror ignorance of technology".

However, evidence showed that police found the images on his computer after acting on information, including images of the second most serious category of child pornography.
