GEORGE GORE'S HORRIFIC CRIMES IN YORK: 21-YEAR SENTENCE FOR ABUSING FOUR GIRLS
In a case that has shocked the city of York, a man named George Gore has been sentenced to a lengthy prison term after being found guilty of a series of heinous crimes committed over a span of more than twenty years.Gore, a resident of Ordnance Lane, Fulford, was convicted of a disturbing campaign of sexual abuse and assault against four young girls, all under the age of 13 at the time of the offenses.
The trial, which commenced on a Wednesday at York Crown Court, concluded by midday on the following Friday, with the jury reaching a unanimous verdict.
Gore was found guilty on all 23 counts, which included multiple charges of sexual assault and rape.
The court heard detailed accounts of his crimes, which took place at various locations within York.
During the sentencing hearing, Judge Deborah Sherwin announced that Gore would serve a total of 21 years behind bars.
The sentence was met with emotional reactions from the public gallery, where cheers and shouts of “take him down” echoed as the judge delivered her verdict.
Following the sentencing, Gore’s victims issued a joint statement through North Yorkshire Police.
They expressed relief that justice had been served after enduring a harrowing 13 months since the crimes were uncovered.
The statement read: “The last 13 months have been horrendous.
But after all this time, we feel that justice has now been done.
Now we want to move on and to be able to live our lives and put this behind us.
We would like to thank everyone involved in bringing this man to justice, in particular the police, lawyers, and the family and friends who have supported us.” The judge addressed Gore directly, emphasizing the severity and duration of his offending.
She stated, “For a large number of years, you posed a very great danger.
For years, you got away with this.
By the time you were abusing [the youngest girl], you must have felt invincible.
Matters have caught up with you now.” It was revealed that the crimes came to light when the youngest victim, overwhelmed by guilt and unable to keep her secret, reported her abuse to the police.
Judge Sherwin highlighted this as a pivotal moment that led to Gore’s arrest and subsequent conviction.
The offenses committed by Gore spanned various locations within York and included a range of disturbing acts.
These included six indecent assaults on the oldest girl, three indecent assaults on the second oldest girl, and three on the third.
Additionally, Gore was convicted of two counts of child rape, eight indecent assaults, and one act of indecency with a child.
The victims’ ages ranged from seven to 14 years old at the time of the offenses.
Sentencing was tailored to each victim’s case, with the most severe punishment being a 14-year sentence for the rape charges.
Gore received four years for the offenses against the oldest girl, and 18 months each for the crimes against the other two victims.
All sentences were ordered to run consecutively, ensuring a lengthy period of incarceration.
During the proceedings, prosecutor Philip Standfast read aloud personal statements from the victims, now adults, describing the profound pain and suffering they endured.
One woman recounted enduring “over 40 years of torture, mental torture, and stress,” while others expressed feelings of guilt, fear, and long-lasting repercussions that continue to affect their lives.
The youngest victim described feeling “trapped in her own little world, wondering when the defendant would hurt her again.” In her sentencing remarks, Judge Sherwin acknowledged the vulnerability of the young girls at the time of the abuse.
She also noted Gore’s age and health issues, which she said meant he would not pose a further threat to the public after serving his prison term.
